You don’t get here by accident. Nestled in a box canyon surrounded by 10,000 to 14,000-foot mountains, Telluride is literally off the beaten path. If you plan on driving, Telluride is approximately 7-8 hours from Denver, 9 hours from Phoenix, 8 hours from Salt Lake City, and 6 hours from Albuquerque. The closest airport is Telluride Regional Airport, but it’s also the most expensive. Other options for arriving by air are Montrose (1.5 hours away, and the most frequented airport of Telluride visitors), Durango (2.5 hours away), and Grand Junction (3 hours away). There is also a small municipal airport in Cortez, CO (2 hours away) which the more adventurous may want to look into. To arrange taxi service from any of these airports, contact Mountain Limo or Telluride Express. There are also car rental agents at all of these locations. Lodging is widely available in Telluride and Mountain Village, from the posh Wyndham Peaks Resort & Spa to a local’s guest room. There are a number of rental management companies which can help you find a place to stay, including Accommodations in Telluride, Resort Quest, Mountain Management, and Alpine Lodging. There are also some lovely bed-and-breakfasts & hotels in town, including the San Sophia, Victorian Inn, Columbia Hotel, The Ice House, Camel’s Garden Resort Hotel, Manitou Lodge, and the historic New Sheridan Hotel. If you’re interested in being hosted by a local family, please contact us at info@telluridelindy.org and we’ll see what we can do. Please keep in mind that if you lodge in Mountain Village, the free gondola between there and Telluride closes at midnight. The official website of Telluride—www.visittelluride.com—has excellent information on travel, lodging, and facts about the region. |
